Writing on the Road

I'm away from home for a few days, off visiting my family. Writing while I'm on the road is a challenge, to say the least. When I'm in a hotel alone, it's a lot easier--no one to distract me or interrupt me (or take the remote away ;-).

But here, when I'm visiting people, I get the interruptions, and worse, the temptations. To go shopping. To go to the beach. To chat (and anyone who knows me knows I love to chat!).

So, my writing intentions, which were very good when I left home a few days ago, have gone the way of the DoDo bird. I start every day, get a few minutes in, but then am drawn into a conversation or entertainment option :-)

And I have the kids with me, which means they need to be ENTERTAINED. As any mom with kids home over summer break knows, the children expect you to be both clown and ringleader. Oh, and feed them every few hours, too. I ask the kids to show me my job description that orders me to feed them regularly, keep them busy, and clean up after them. Thus far, no one has been able to produce that document ;-)

So, if you e-mail me and I don't e-mail back right away, it's because I'm not at the computer. I'm at the beach ;-)

  1. I can sympathize with the feeding the kids... I'm not sure if you have any boys or not, but my son had his friends over a good bit on my week off. He is now 14 and he and his friends eat like garbage disposals. It's murder feeding 4 teenage boys!!

You HAVE to go write. Your legions of fans are waiting for the next book. Just finished The Devil Served Tortellini -hope I spelled that right. I don't have it in front of me. What a great book! Real characters, great plot..I loved it and can't wait for the next Shirley book. : - )
