What an Adventure!

I blogged today over at Love is an Exploding Cigar (complete with pictures!) about our two-week California adventure. It was such a blast!

That's me and Marilyn Monroe, at the famous (and very, very cool and fun) Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. I highly recommend it as a stop on your tour if you go to LA.

While I was in LA, I read both a Michael Connelly novel (The Concrete Blonde) and a Michael Crichton (State of Fear), both of which take place in LA (well, State of Fear is only partly in LA). I've read several of Connelly's novels now thanks to a friend who told me I'd enjoy them (and I have!) and under that same friend's advice to read one while I was in LA, found it really cool to actually read about a setting while I was in it. We'd be driving down Sepulveda Boulevard, and I'd read about a scene that included that. Or Wilshire, or Sunset, or Santa Monica. It was just neat. Next time I travel, I'm going to try to bring along a book set in that city to do the same thing again.

Now that my kids are returning to school, that means my life will return to a schedule again. And I'll be home more often--and cooking again. I've pulled out the recipes, and hope to do some cool things this week!

  1. Glad you enjoyed your trip and thanks for bringing the rest of us along for the ride.

Do you see a bunch of Lamborghinis and cool cars like we did?

Can you tell I'm influenced by a 1-year-old boy? LOL

  2. I'm currently reading State of Fear. It's been a few years since I've read any of his work. I'm about a fourth of the way through and suddenly wondering how on earth I'm going to finish this mammoth. :) What did you think of it Shirley?

  3. We saw a ton of cool cars! Kept trying to talk the valet into giving us one of those instead of our rental but it didn't work, LOL.

State of Fear was long, LOL, and I skimmed over most of the science, just wanting to get to the story. I thought it got really good once they left town and were actually in danger. But again, the science was dense, dense, dense.
