In the Texas race for state comptroller, one misinformed candidate had the audacity to call his opponent, who is a former romance writer, a pornographer, and to go so far as to post excerpts from her novel on his website as examples of said pornography.
He apparently forgot that Texas is where the headquarters of Romance Writers of America (of which I am a proud member) is located. We're 9000 members strong. 9000 members who were very ticked off at this man.
He received a flood of mail and e-mail. And a lot of unwanted media attention. Read the Houston Chronicle's front page story here.
He even made Brit Hume's report on Fox News. If you've ever watched Brit Hume, you can just hear the reporter's dry, amused delivery about this whole absurd controversy.
Oh, and the name of the candidate making all these accusations? Fred Head. I kid you not. I couldn't have made that one up if I tried.
