My goal is to get through one closet a month in this house. I've done two this month so far. Maybe that clears me for February?
I did my son's room yesterday. He of the ten zillion toys. Before we started his room you literally could not walk through the space. By the time we were done, he had enough room in there to park a Volkswagon. He's quite the happy camper now. I have a mega-sized donation for the Salvation Army, a sizeable pile of toys for our garage sale in the spring, and his closet has been properly organized.
DH installed extra shelving, and I had my son organize and separate all his toys into bins, then install those bins on the shelves. It's something I've been meaning to do for at least a year, but when you're writing 8 books a year, there's not a whole lot of free time in there to do this kind of thing ;-)
Last week, I did my office closet. That one was the biggest eyesore in the entire house. It was, quite literally, my dumping ground. I tore everything out, put it all in my office, and moved a bookcase in there to put all my books on so that when I go to send stuff out for contests, they are all right there, easy to see what I have for stock for fans, etc. It's SO much easier. But when I cleared off the bookcase, it had all these toys on it, which was what necessitated cleaning out my son's room. Next is my daughter's closet. She's overjoyed. Not.
And then the next big project. Pictures. My poor son thinks we never took a picture of him because I haven't had time to assemble a single photo album since his birth. I have DEVELOPED the pictures. I have SORTED the pictures. I have BOUGHT the albums. But have I actually PUT the pictures IN the albums?
No. Because I have this crazy idea I'll do scrapbooking or some such really nice thing when all I should do is just slap some pictures in an album and call it done so the kid can at least see we loved him enough to capture him on film. I know, though, from talking to my friends, that I am not the only one with a gazillion years of un-albumed photos. So I don't feel bad.
Still, it remains on my 2007 To Do list.

I LOVE George Carlin's monologues! That guy really hits the nail on the head about people and their stuff. I may just sign on for an extra deadline to get out of closet duty though ;-)

I know about the pictures stuff. I have started them but technically he is still only a day old. LOL I have a scrapbooking night next month so I am happy. :)
ReplyDeleteOne closet at a time...that's the way to do it! My closets are okay; it's my books and scrapbooking supplies that I'm going through right now!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what it does for how you FEEL when you clean a closet out! I just did one in the hall and I can breath again. The key is keeping up with it, but if you plan to organize one or two of your newly cleaned closets a month, it's a quick fix once the big part is over!

ReplyDeleteI'll have to remember the tip about the Spacebags! I've seen them advertised, and given the state of my TEENY linen closet, I could use some! I have loads of blankets and hate to get rid of them because just when you do is when you need one ;-).

I agree, Gina! It's the keeping up with it. DH said this weekend he's going to move all the garage sale stuff out of my office which means it will no longer be sitting across from my monitor. I'll have a nice view again ;-)
