Back to Work on Brides and Christmas

I'm back at work, with a (knock on wood) hopefully migraine free day. Battled one for days on end, now trying a new med regimen from my neuro, and have my fingers crossed that it will work.

During the last few days, I had the techno disaster to beat all -- my laptop, which had a faulty power cord, finally lost its power cord battle (the power cord broke apart, right at the little silver thing-y that plugs into the back of the laptop), sob-sob. My dear, lovable, best writing friend Alphasmart was cruelly killed (okay, maybe that's a bit harsh) by a hot cup of tea spilled by my daughter. Sob-sob-sob. So, no more sofa pity-party work for me. Laptop goes to the service people today, for a two-week stay in Laptop Rehab. I'm going to call the Alphasmart people today and see if there is any hope for repair. If not, I'm buying a new one.

I stuck to my diet over the weekend, but ate too many carbs (granted, diet carbs, but hey, they are still carbs) because my stomach was so upset with the migraine, so no loss, but no gain. Not bad. I made a Mustard Onion Chuck Roast. Nothing to write home about but it wasn't awful. A few days before, I made the Busy Day Chicken and Rice, using Uncle Ben's Italian Garlic Wild Rice. The rice was really good, the chicken not so bad. :-)

I also made Lemon-Pepper broccoli in the microwave. This is exceedingly easy, so much so that I bet most of you already do it, but I'll post the recipe anyway :-)

Lemon-Pepper Broccoli

1 16-ounce bag frozen broccoli
1 tablespoon water
1 tablespoon low-fat margarine
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon lemon-pepper

Put broccoli and water in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave until cooked, stirring once (in my microwave, that's about 8 minutes). Drain off water. Stir in remaining ingredients. Microwave one more minute to reheat. Done :-)

(Hey, I just noticed this is not the new fancy-dancy version of Blogger, so no colors or anything cool in this post. Sorry!)

Back to work -- I'm writing a Christmas novella with a wedding gown in it. Great fun all around, but I'm wishing it would snow so I could get that Christmas mood back again :-)

Have a great day!!

Shirley

  1. I get migranes occasionally so I know how that goes. GOod luck on the writing. We got 3-6 inches where I live in Minnesota. So tomorow I'll take my little boy out to play in the snow. :)

  2. As a poet, and an avid reader, I have to say that I very much enjoyed my leisurely stroll through your blog...it was time well spent; entertaining and enlightening. I thank you...

  3. Lover of Books,

My kids would be so jealous! They love snow (snowboarding, sledding, etc.) and can't wait for even a dusting here. We've had nothing so far. They'd make me drive to MN if they knew there was snow there ;-)
