Blog of the Day: Coffee Cup

On another list I'm on, someone suggested blogging prompts and then I popped in with what a good idea, and how we should like to other people's blogs that do the same thing. I am SO clueless how to link in a blog ring. But I can do URL links at least so if you do blog on this, let me know (shirley@shirleyjump.com)!

Today's prompt was picking an ordinary household object and blogging about it. Since I'm sitting in a coffee shop, having a kinda icky gingerbread latte (I think it's the gingerbread crumbs they put on top that get icky...like when you drop your cookie in your milk and then it becomes baby mush that just tastes WRONG) and thinking about my coffee cup.

I am particular about weird things. For one, my coffee cup. I have this coffee cup that someone gave me in a Secret Friend exchange years ago (I think it was Drue, if it was you, Drue, waving thanks!). It's white and has a silver edge, which means I can't put it in the microwave (serious blonde moment when I did that once with a gold-rimmed mug and then thought the sparks meant the microwave was dead and made DH go buy us a new one). Anyway, this mug is exactly the right size. Regular mugs are a little big so my coffee gets cold when I'm typing. This one isn't too small, so I get enough of a drink to feel happy.

No one in the house is allowed to use my coffee cup. No one is allowed to touch it, actually. I don't want it to get broken because then I'll have to go out and find one just like it so I don't mess up my coffee formula (it's also the perfect size for one sugar and a generous dose of cream. You know how those too-big ones require a math formula of sugar...I hate that).

I'm re-reading this and thinking, oh Lordy, I am a total freak. If you think I'm bad about my coffee cup, you should see me pick out a purse. To me, it's like picking out a husband--I mean, I have to live with this thing day in and day out. If it's not perfect, it will only annoy me and I'll have to start the whole shopping process all over again.

Okay, yes, I am a freak. Perhaps it's best not to link this blog with the others ;-)

Hoisting a latte to you, dear reader,

Shirley

I am particular about my coffe mug too. Except mine is HUGE. Oh, and the whole metal in the microwave thing...my son put in tinfoil, which sparked and made a little fire (which went out immediately). But did he tell his parents? No, he ran outside thinking the house would catch fire, not thinking to warn his us. Well, at least he grabbed his little brother on the way out.

  2. I've been looking for a really big coffee mug. One that holds 20 ounces of coffee or cuppacino (sp). I have one that's close, but it's so tall. There's a plastic one but its plastic and just not the same. If I find one I really like, it will be off limits to everyone else too!

  3. I did a piece for Mississippi Public Broadcasting and they gave me a great mug that I HAVE to use everyday. So you aren't a freak. LOL

I'm not a coffee drinker...GAG (ducking). But I love hot choclate and steamers. :) I have a couple mugs I like, but I haven't found one I'm in love with yet. I keep looking though.

I enjoyed your coffee rambles. :)

Shirley, you're welcome. I did give you a cup in a past SF exchange. I remember you have a thing for litte cups and saucers. Loved your blog. It is funny how we become fond of one particular coffee cup - both my parents get upset if anyone messes with their respective cups. Hugs, Drue

  7. LOL, not a freak. BTW, bigger cup takes exactly five sugars. ;o)

  8. Drue, thank you again for the cup (says Shirley as she drinks out of it today :-).

Dorothy, information is duly stored in my brain!

  9. LOL, Laura. Glad I'm not the only one. Too funny about your son -- and yes, glad he grabbed his little brother! :-)

Cindy and Audra, good luck in your search for the elusive mug! I bought a purse yesterday -- third trip to the store before I finally settled on one :-)

LOL, Tiff. Glad to know I'm in good company!

LMiss -- okay, I hate your warm weather! It's barely freezing here. Ugh.
