Leisure Guilt and the Fall TV Season

Is anyone else as anxious as I am for the fall TV season to start? I have about a dozen shows on my Must See list. The problem with Must See is that I also MUST WORK and those two don't always go together.

Enter the wonders of DVR. My cable company offers a DVR thingy that records whatever I want, whenever I want it. It's more than the On Demand channel (which has been great, but never has exactly what I wanted, when I wanted it). That way, I can get the season openers of "Lost," "House," "ER," etc., and watch them after I've written my pages for the day. The carrot on the stick :-)

And if I happen to run into anyone talking about the episodes while I'm out, I'll make like the guy in "Fever Pitch" -- cover my ears and scream "La, la, la," really loud. It'll be attractive in public, I'm sure.

In reference to yesterday's post, I came across this in my e-mail today: Leisure Guilt. It's from the Buzzword of the Day, brought to us by those people at Buzzwhack. Leisure guilt is that guilt you get from taking time off. It can get so bad that you might as well not take the day off at all because then you are so frantic, trying to get caught up.

That's how I'm feeling today. Had another INSANE migraine yesterday and now feel like I have too much to do in one day and need to get caught up. So I had loads of leisure yesterday (what else was there to do when my brain is melting into my head -- a great description of a migraine from a friend of mine!).

Anyway :-) On to a new day and a new start. And a new whack at the book on my desk that's been percolating in my brain, waiting for me to get back at it!

Have a great Tuesday and short week!

Shirley

  1. I LOVE that phrase, "leisure guilt." It's got it all... and I suffer from it often!

Oh, don't forget to check "Heroes" on NBC...my cousin is one of the leads! It looks to be an amazing show. I should get DVR because my DH wants Monday Night Football, can you imagine? LOL

Hope your migraine is gone today

I can't imagine life without my DVR anymore. I'm very excited about this fall's shows (Heroes, Smallville, Lost, etc.), but I still have to catch up on my summer shows!
I don't feel guilty about spending my weekends doing nothing.. that's why I work all week.. to make the weekends possible!

  3. I love the autumn TV scheduling over here in Britain as well, Shirley. The new season of The Sopranos, which is one of my all time favourite shows has just begun. I understand you had it in the States a few months ago?

I also love BBC costume dramas as well, so I'm hoping they'll put one of those on as well!

I love this time of the year when the nights start drawing in and I can cosy down in front of the fire. Although I have to be careful as I'm prone to SAD, so I have a HappyLite just behind my computer to provide me with those happy rays of light.

Yes, I know what you mean about 'leisure guilt'. Sometimes it can feel as though we should be doing something, when in reality all we need to do to recharge our batteries is do nothing at all. Perhaps we should remind ourselves that at the opposite end of the spectrum ia a sneaky little condition known as 'burn out'.

Perhaps our motto should be: "Chill out instead of burn out!"

  4. We totally love the Sopranos here. I'm a huge fan of anything that David Chase does. He's a really talented writer.

I got one of those sun lamps for Christmas, Lynette and REALLY like it! I'm a super early riser, so it's nice to bring that sunlight in for the first half hour or so when I get up.

LOL because I can tread really close to too much leisure and call it burnout ;-)

Pattie -- how cool about your cousin!!!!!! I'll definitely look for him!!

DS and I are planning on repainting the kitchen this weekend. Not a very big job (not a very big kitchen :-). That's if I can drive past Blockbuster without renting the second season of Lost :-)
